The Future of Commercial Waste – Turn Trash Into Treasure
It is a subject people are constantly fighting over, who should take out the trash we generate. But why fighting when the answer is a simple one. The persons who create the trash should be the same ones who collect it, recycle it and transform it into something new that does not harm the planet. When it comes to the trash created by companies, no one wants to take it out, and it ends up in landfills.
From there to becoming a real threat to people’s lives is only a step, because landfills are one of the main sources of toxic substances. They generate greenhouse gases and they affect the health of the communities found in their near proximity. But not only humans are the ones who are experiencing the effects of the trash collected in landfills, the animals and plants are also deeply affected.
So what is the future of the planet? considering that the quantities of waste are growing year by year.
First, it is essential to know that environmental concerns are the top priority of governments from around the world. More and more companies have taken the initiative to transform their trash into products that can be reused.
A study from the Journal of Mechanical Design states that people prefer to buy products that were manufactured in eco-friendly conditions. Also, studies show that people are now willing to pay more on a sustainable product, than they were in the past. Humans have reached a point when they have understood that they have to care more for the environment, if they want to have a planet to live on, in the future.
So what is the future of commercial waste? Companies have found some surprising but effective ways to collect and recycle their waste.
They Turn Garbage Into Art
Only because a company works in a certain industry, it does not mean that they can sell products only to a certain public. They can collaborate with art creators to transform the garbage they produce into pieces of art. There are persons who use their creativity to transform waste into objects that are sold for great sums of money in auctions, and some of these pieces are even exposed in museums.
In order companies to transform their waste into art they have to establish partnerships with talented artists. One of the artists who create art from garbage is Francisco de Pajaro. He is carrying with him coloured sprays and when he encounters garbage on the street he transforms it into characters.
There are countless ways to transform commercial trash into art, it is important to allow your creativity to work.
They Turn Trash Into New Products
More and more companies have started to search for ways to repurpose their trash. They use recycled materials and goods as the main supply for the products they manufacture. This is one of the simplest and most effective strategies to promote environmentally friendly practices. In Europe a company makes furniture items from the trash they recycle from consumers, therefore they have endless supplies. They even recycle their own products, so they re-use them to create a new supply chain.
A soap provider decided to create their packages from the bottles recycled from the ocean waters. The plastic items have recently conquered the waters of the world, and it requires immediate attention, because it is a danger that can easily get out of our hands and kill entire species of animals and plants.
Nike is one of the companies that decided to use recycled materials to create new products. The yarn they use for socks, shorts and shirts is made from recycled plastic. They offered an official statement to share the fact that from 2010 until now they have recycled more than 4 million plastic bottles.
Therefore, everything starts by recycling the trash. All the companies that have added eco-friendly rules in their regulations started collaborations with companies like Miltek because it is important to collect the trash they produce in suitable balers. By using the right waste equipment and storing the waste into balers, companies reduce the harm their garbage is creating.
Garbage is Power
China has decided to open the world’s biggest waste-to-energy plant in 2020, because the country is currently facing a tremendous issue with the waste produced by both companies and individuals. They plan to use solar power to run the plant and they want to use it to generate electricity for a city, while they get rid of the trash they have collected.
A good example of this practice is Sweden. They have managed to start a program of transforming waste into energy that cleared their country from trash, and now they have started to help other companies. Sweden is now currently importing trash from other states, because they have understood that it is a treasure, everyone should benefit from. In Sweden, people recycle around 50% of their waste, and they transform the most of it into electricity or heat. They throw in the dump less than 1% of the trash they create.
Companies Turn Waste Into Houses
Companies got to a point when they have started to collect waste and they transform it into buildings and homes. A Spanish company uses recycled materials to create affordable houses. Around the world, dumpsters are transformed into homes, so there is hope. Because they are using recycled products, they have started a new niche called sustainable design. It is a subject discussed even in design schools worldwide, and it is considered essential for every person who graduates a design school.
The questions the majority of companies have nowadays are “Will people reward businesses for spending more to focus on environmentally friendly processes?” “Are they willing to pay more for products that have the potential to save the planet? Bryan Bollinger, an assistant professor at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business offers the answer to these questions. He states that if sustainable products work at the same level traditional products do, clients will have no issue to pay more for buying them.
